Guess who was up at 4 a.m. this morning? That would be me. Why? Because Miss Jessie was having a little bit of anxiety that involved heavy breathing, pacing and some whining. A thunderstorm rolled in during the wee hours and she becomes quite distressed during thunderstorms. During our last big thunderstorm, she almost crawled completely into the couch.
So at 4 a.m. I was trying to get both dogs on the bed so I could get a couple more hours of sleep. But she was still freaked out. By 4:30, I was out of bed, looking for chew toys to distract her.
Now Sam could give a rat’s patootie about thunderstorms. Nothing really rattles him. I wish he could teach Jessie that trick.
This is just another residual of Jessie’s poor treatment as a puppy. She’s come a long way but thunderstorms really get under her skin.
Friday was Jessie’s 5th birthday! She still acts and looks like a puppy.

So sorry about the long inght and early morning! Storms are so hard on furcritters, you are a very nice mommy to get up and help at 4am!!!
Every dog we’ve had has been TERRIFIED of thunder. They try and cram themselves under whatever they can. What’s interesting, to me, is that Jessie doesn’t take a cue from Sam… you know? Hey, he’s not freaking out, so it must all be ok… but Abbey is more spastic than Mags, and that bitch (I say that in the technical sense) will never learn!
